We are blessed to be able to offer singing opportunities at all three of our weekend masses.
Our Sunday choirs, providing music at the 8:30 and 10:30 masses, are led by Chris Brunelle. The selections for these groups can range from older Catholic classics like “Here I Am Lord” and “Blest Are They”, to modern composers and songs. A variety of instruments can be used, and songs are always selected to encourage assembly participation. “Contemporary” does not mean EASY! These groups can still challenge the experienced singer with 4-part singing and complex arrangements. Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 7pm in the church.
The Holy Family Traditional Choir ministers at the 5:30 Saturday mass, and is led by Tina Paradiso. There is a greater emphasis on singing the classic songs of our faith, often using 4-part arrangements—and the repertoire is quite substantial and varied. Expect to learn better singing technique and music theory through Tina’s expert instruction! Rehearsals are on Monday evenings, at 7pm in the church.
While there may be some differences in the style and repertoire of these groups, the mission remains the same. The #1 goal of a music ministry is to foster the full participation of the assembly in the liturgy. While there may be times that a beautiful prelude or meditation song is offered by the choir, our attitude is never one of performance.
Auditions are not required, and music-reading ability is helpful but not a necessity. All are welcome!
