Our Holy Family Church community benefits today from careful planning and stewardship of current and former parishioners and church leaders.
Now, it is our time to assume those roles as we envision the future of Holy Family Catholic Church and School facilities.
Our ministries require spaces that are safe, comfortable, ADA accessible and flexible to serve our families, children and all parishioners.
We are entering a new chapter to execute the first phases of a masterplanning process that began in 2017. The planning process to get to this point has faced challenges from the COVID Pandemic and the resulting uncertainty.
But we feel confident that we can proceed on the priorities highlighted by all of you during the masterplanning process. We will focus on three major project areas:
- Constructing a new Parish Center and offices located at the west of the church on our vacant field. This will increase accessibility and will add valuable, modern meeting spaces.
- Significantly upgrading the HVAC system in the school to provide the best possible learning environment for our students and teachers.
- Continuing to address important ADA access in our facilities. The new parish center will be ground level and offer unimpeded access unlike our current, older center. In addition, a wheelchair ramp will be added for better access from Celebration Hall into the ground floor of our school and its bathrooms. As the success of our Capital Campaign unfolds, we will add an elevator to our school.
We pray and hope this vision brings joy to your heart as we plan for our parish future. All of us are key stakeholders to achieve these plans. We look forward to sharing more about our fundraising goals to begin this work in 2024.
God bless you and thank you for your support of Holy Family.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Why is the master plan needed?
Holy Family has some old buildings and a few newer buildings. Even newer structures, such as the church built in 1999, require ongoing maintenance for paint, carpet, roofing and more.
In order to undertake any significant construction, the Archdiocese requires a current master plan. A master plan documents the physical plant needs in the planning process that engages the parishioners, school parents, staff, and other stakeholders in determining a future vision of the parish.
Our school was built in 1948; the Rectory and Parish Center followed in 1949 and the 1950's respectively, to house our sisters and the pastor. OUr school gym was built in 1964. As the parish has weathered both good and bad financial times, maintenance has beeb inconsistent. Even the best of care, however, cannot fend off the ravages of weather and time on these buildings.
As a thriving community of faith, Holy Family must look with clear eyes on its future and decide how it will act out its mission in the next few decades.

How was our new master plan developed starting in 2017?
We collected feedback from parishioners and input from parish and school staff in 2017 to determine a final master plan layout. Please view the Master Plan by clicking HERE.
Several parish facilities committees worked over the years to identify, prioritize, and in some cases perform maintenance around Holy Family campus. Spawned from discussions over the past several years in both Administrative and Pastoral Councils and ideas proposed by parishioners, Father Rodel created a Master Plan Task Force in 2017 to formally address Holy Family’s facility and property needs.
The Task Force was charged with identifying the type of master plan to meet the parish’s needs to address maintenance and any possible future construction. Soderstrom Architects PC of Portland was selected and retained by the parish to prepare a master plan. Soderstrom has successfully completed similar projects for other local Catholic parishes in the Portland area.
What were the results of the parish surveys on the master plan?
Approximately 180 surveys about campus priorities were returned by parishioners in response to the January 2018 presentations by Soderstrom Architects. The results are posted in two parts:
