This past year has been challenging for all of us. The COVID19 Pandemic has affected our lives in so many ways. It seems to have been the worst of times. But during this time of darkness is also when we can see the light shining at its brightest. We have seen immense goodness of people, stepping up and helping out in our community here at Holy Family, which is admirable and inspiring. We can say it has been the best of times as well.
During these days of the Pandemic, we had to close our doors for worship for a couple of months and just offer online Masses. When we opened, we were limited in what we could do in living out our ministries and celebrations. But this did not stop us from doing our mission here at Holy Family. For this past year, we have had 15 Baptisms, 3 weddings, 7 funerals, 23 Confirmations and 38 First Communions. We had Faith Formation sessions, some youth group activities and we even held a modified VBS. Many of our ministries/committees/councils continued to meet virtually. In the ups and downs of our life and in its different stages, our faith is the one thing that sustains us.
Our community also grew despite of not being able to gather together as a community. We have 102 new parishioners in 41 households who registered from January 2020 to the present in our parish. Our school has 197 students enrolled this year and are now fully back in-person. Our community has been a source of strength for so many of us. In this time of physical distancing and limited social interactions, we have been connected by our relationship with God and with one another.
Understandably, our parish financial situation has been affected by the Pandemic as well. With the closure of our Church for some time and the limited attendance thereafter, our offertory numbers have declined significantly. Despite of this, we have managed our expenses well and have been efficient in our budgeting. However, when we go back to our normal operations, our expenses will also go up. So, there is a need for us to raise our offertory collections to sustain our gains. This will take all of us giving our fair share as good stewards of our community. The amazing thing about our community is that we are not lacking in great stewards here at Holy Family. Even though there were far less people who gave this year because of the Pandemic, there were quite a few people in our community who stepped up in giving their time, talent and treasure. We owe you our greatest appreciation. On behalf of your Holy Family, I say to you: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This shows us that there is no mountain so high and no ocean so deep that we cannot overcome when we have God and one another. It is my hope and prayers that our connections here at Holy Family keep us stronger in our faith, in our community and in service to one another.
God bless you,
Fr. Rodel
Financial Summary
· There were 307 families who gave to offertory during 2020, which is down 24% from 402 contributing families in 2019. For 2021, only 296 have given so far.
· The amount collected in 2020 was $621,239, which is down 22% from $690,004 in 2019. This includes loose collections.
· On a positive note, the average amount contributed per family increased from $1,375 per family in 2019 to $1,679 per family in 2020.
· The biggest drop in number of donor families was in the $0-$500 range, which was down from 150+ donors in 2018 and 2019 to only 86 families in 2020. We also saw decreases in number of families contributing $500-$1,200 (from 100 to 89) and in the number of families contributing $1,200-$2,400 (from 90+ to 74). Fortunately, there were not a lot of changes in the number of families contributing $2,400 to $5,000, the $5,000 to $10,000 and over range.
· To reach our numbers before the Pandemic, we need to raise $121,559 to our current numbers now. That would require an increase of 73 more families to our current 296 contributing families with the projected average of $1,868 to get to the 2019 total of $690,004. In actuality, it would be great if we could get back to 400+ contributing families and still average $1,679 per family.
